At Lancing Day Nursery & Pre-school, we provide an opportunity for all the children in our care to embrace the joy of play and a love for learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
Our experienced practitioners encourage children to be doers and thinkers, while being curious about the environment around them. We embrace ‘in the moment learning’, allowing children to follow their interests and make discoveries organically throughout their day.
Your child will have access to our outside space throughout the day, where they can explore a range of natural and holistic resources designed to engage their senses and spark their imagination.
This approach supports our commitment to nurturing each child’s social, emotional, and physical development in a stimulating and caring environment.
We are an inclusive setting, supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities and children who speak English as an Additional Language.
Rooms
Baby Snug (3 months – 18 months)
In our cosy baby room, your child will be encouraged to use the soft play area to develop their gross motor (large movement) skills and will be supported as they enjoy a range of activities including music, traditional nursery rhymes, singing, and sensory exploration.
Your child’s early language development will also be cultivated with lots of verbal and non-verbal communication from our experienced early years practitioners.
We also have an amazing garden, designed specifically to provide all age groups with a range of stimulating learning opportunities, and a floodlit outdoor classroom and dining area where children can learn, play and eat regardless of the weather.
Toddler Den (18 months – 2.5 years)
Our toddler room is a language rich environment, where your child will have access to a wide range of resources for self-directed, explorative play, including loose parts for imaginative play, building and counting resources, key mathematical words and symbols, and arts and crafts materials.
With parental agreement, our practitioners will support your child when toilet training, assisting them with their health and self-care.
We also have an amazing garden, designed specifically to provide all age groups with a range of stimulating learning opportunities, and a floodlit outdoor classroom and dining area where children can learn, play and eat regardless of the weather.
Pre-school Study (2.5 years – 5 years)
Preparing for school and those next big steps in education is a big deal, so in our pre-school study we focus on activities that promote reading, writing, maths and science – ensuring children are learning as they play. All activities are carefully planned to cover all areas of learning.
We also embed and embrace your child’s sense of independence, encouraging them to take control of their learning through interactions with other children. This means that your child will learn to their own agenda, with our skilled practitioners looking for the teachable moment in everything they do.
Nursery Manager: Rachel Hughes
Rachel, who has worked in childcare since 2005, has been a part of The Nursery Family team since 2020. She first joined Lancing as Deputy Manager but was soon promoted to Manager.
In 2015, Rachel completed a foundation degree and gained her Level 5 in early childhood studies. The additional skills and knowledge she acquired, combined with the vast experience she has accrued across a variety of nursery settings, enables her to confidently support her team in developing their own practice for the benefit of all children who attend our nursery.

There is a large car park at the front of the nursery.
Cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. All the members of staff are so friendly, warm and welcoming. Our daughter absolutely loves attending and is always so excited to go.
