At Ashington Day Nursery & Pre-school, we will prioritise your child’s emotional well-being in order to support their all-round development.
We champion excellence in childcare by focusing on each child as an individual, so our approach focuses on fostering their sense of identity and belonging, which gives them the confidence to explore, learn and grow.
Our experienced practitioners encourage children to be the doers and thinkers, while being curious about the environment around them.
Your child will have access to our outside space throughout the day, where they can explore a range of natural and holistic resources designed to engage their senses and spark their imagination.
We are an inclusive setting with a Level 3 qualified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator. We support children learning English as an Additional Language by using key words that staff learn, and familiar words from their first language, provided by parents.
Baby Snug (3 months – 2 years)
In our cosy baby room, your child will be encouraged to use the soft play area to develop their gross motor (large movement) skills and will be supported as they enjoy a range of activities including music, traditional nursery rhymes, singing, and sensory exploration.
Your child’s early language development will also be cultivated with lots of verbal and non-verbal communication from our experienced early years practitioners.
There is also a newly refurbished garden with grassy slopes and tunnels and a range of resources and curiosities for your child to enjoy. We also regularly take children to the local park to experience the natural world.
Toddler Den (2 – 3 years)
Our toddler room is a language rich environment, where your child will have access to a wide range of resources for self-directed, explorative play, including loose parts for imaginative play, building and counting resources, key mathematical words and symbols, and arts and crafts materials.
In addition, there is a well-resourced garden that your child will have regular access to for outdoor play and investigation.
With parental agreement, our practitioners will support your child when toilet training, assisting them with their health and self-care.
In the New Year, children will begin weekly Dizzy Dance sessions to strengthen their physical development through music and movement.
Pre-school Study (3 – 5 years)
Our preschool study is where we embed and embrace your child’s sense of independence, awe and wonder, mathematical language, problem solving, love of stories and books, and imaginative play.
We will encourage your child to take control of their learning through interactions with other children. This means that your child will learn to their own agenda, with our skilled practitioners looking for the teachable moment in everything they do.
Our children’s learning in our preschool room is supported by a qualified teacher, which enables us to fully support your child’s transition to school.
Parking and accessibility
We are located on the main London Road through Ashington. There are 2 parking spaces for parents to park in and drop children off. There is also plenty of parking on the road. We are able to offer wheelchair access through our preschool entrance only.
My daughter has been coming here for nearly a year, and she absolutely loves it; there has never been a day she hasn't wanted to go. All the staff are lovely, extremely helpful, and supportive of the parents and the children.
